Supplies
- 150 grit Sandpaper
- 1 quart Rustoleum Chalked Paint Country Gray
- 1 quart Rustoleum Chalked Paint Charcoal
- 1 Pint Pittsburg Ultra Latex Paint Stonehenge Greige
- 1 Brush
- 1 Foam Brush
- 1 Pint Sealant Minwax Polycrylic Ultra Matte
- 1 pint Minwax stain espresso
Instructions
Base Refinishing Instructions
- Begin by lightly sanding the tables with 150grit sandpaper. You don't need to strip them down to bare wood, just remove theglossy finish. Sand with the grain as much as possible.
- Apply 2 coats of Rustoleum Chalked paint inCountry Gray. This serves as a primer due to its excellent adhesion, quickdrying, and great coverage. Allow an hour of dry time between each coat.
- Once the second coat is dry, apply 2 lightcoats of the paint color Stonehenge Greige.
Top Refinishing Instructions
- Create a "wash" using Rustoleum Chalked paint in Charcoal by mixing approximately 2 parts paint with 1tablespoon of water. Adjust the water amount to achieve a desired consistency, akin to a very opaque watercolor.
- Apply the wash with the grain of the wood, ensuring even coverage without pooling. Apply 2 coats of wash with around 40 minutes between each coat.
- Once the wash is completely dry, apply Minwax stain in Espresso using a t-shirt rag. Apply enough for coverage without wiping too hard. Ensure proper ventilation as this step can be quite odorous. Allow it to dry thoroughly; waiting 24 hours is recommended.
- After drying, lightly seal the surface with Minwax Water-Based Polycrylic Ultra Matte or Matte using a foam brush. Avoidover-brushing and let it dry for about 30 minutes to an hour. Apply a secondcoat. If air bubbles appear, lightly sand with 800 grit sandpaper betweencoats.
- For added durability, especially if the tables will be subjected to rough handling, consider applying two more coats of the polycrylic sealant.
